More than 1.9 million people are incarcerated in the United States, over 10 million around the world (Prison Policy Initiative). Many are longing for a caring connection. Many have reached the end of their rope. Many have hearts open to the Gospel. Crossroads Prison Ministries was born out of a desire to connect Christians on the ‘outside’ with those in prison — to offer a ray of hope that someone cares. To be a mentor — nurturing newfound faith and offering a lifeline of encouragement.

Christ-centered relationships change everything! The unique circumstances of prison ministry led us to use the postal service as our main form of interaction. Incarcerated ‘students’ complete Bible study lessons and volunteer ‘mentors’ give feedback — while also writing notes of encouragement. It’s been an effective model — helping us serve nearly 30,000 men and women in the U.S. each year and 10,000 more globally. But the need is still great!
Question
How Many People Are Globally Incarcerated?
A: 7 Million
B: 10 Million
C: 12 Million
Answer
B: 10 Million
There are over 10M people incarcerated globally, more than 1.9M in the United States. Over 600,000 people are released from state and federal prisons in the U.S. each year. And of those, 62% will return to prison within 3 years. Crossroads helps equip students to reintegrate and flourish in their reentry to civilian life.
